Deal Alert: Samsung Galaxy Tab

The price of a Samsung Galaxy Tab just dropped down to $200 on a contract with Sprint.  This is $100 dollars less than their previous low price.  The Samsung Galaxy Tab,  was pretty much the first semi legitimate Android tablet.  It was however never given the blessing by Google, and never received an actual tablet oriented Operating System (Honeycomb) mostly due to the fact that Google was still developing Android 3.0. In a rush to get a product out  and profit off of an emerging tablet market, this was developed.  It is a smaller form factor 7 inch screen running Android 2.2 Froyo with some custom widgets.  Many people will deride this for it’s lack of Honeycomb, and I happen to agree with them, but had trouble holding off on purchasing one as an impulse buy early on.

The lack of a Tablet specific OS (Honeycomb) is a big limitation especially among the Android fan base.  Consider this though: the iPad and the iPad 2 do not have an OS that is purpose built for a tablet either.  To me the reviewer, I tend to think this is a point of failure on the Apple front.  Those in the Apple camp tend to applaud this as a feature in that there is no learning difficulty.  This will most likely evolve when Steve Jobs decides to define the differences more (most likely with the recently delayed iOS 5).

Back to the Samsung Galaxy Tab.  It has been around for a while now, and has some interesting accessories: like a car dock, and an HDMI Media dock.  We here at New Tablet Reviews have to suggest that even at this price point you probably should wait and purchase a newer tablet. Look around and ask around the site to find the best tablet in this price point. Right now the Nook Color, if you are willing to hack has a better screen, and you will not have to lock yourself into a two year cellular contract.  If you are not willing to hack Honeynook emmc v5 or whatever flavor is the latest, then you should not consider buying the Nook Color. Out of the magnetized box of the Nook Color eReader/tablet it is not running a full on Android tablet OS or.  If you can afford the upfront costs, always avoid these arrangements. They are more expensive than the tablet itself in the long run.  If you are still interested in this tablet, head down to your nearest electronics seller, and try before you buy. Save up your money for a few more weeks and get a superior tablet which you won’t regret.
