Asus Transformer Prime up for preorder at Amazon

Asus Transformer Prime Android Tablet

Android tablets are gaining momentum, and the Asus Transformer Prime is the first of the truly next generation device to hit the market.  The inclusion of an Nvidia Tegra 3 mobile Processor is extremely exciting.  This processor is a quad core energy efficient beast.  The energy efficiency is bolstered by a fifth mini core that is used for keep alive, and minimal processing when the true giant is not needed.  It is believed that the increase of power and the coupled increase in power efficiency make this a big breakthrough in the portable device market.  While the true street level tests are not in, it should prove to be more than marketing hyperbole.

The Asus EEE Transformer that this Android tablet is the heir to, was quite successful, in a landscape where other Android devices didn’t gain much traction. Their well built battery bolstering keyboard add on, served to add nearly an additional 6 hours of battery life and made this a productive piece of hardware.  Possibly the most exciting part of this device is the screen which is a 10.1 inch IPS+ multi touch capacitive screen.  It is Gorilla Glass , and to put the cherry on top it listed as pressure sensitive.  This should be putting it in the arena of creative creation for digital artistry. We have yet to field test one of these, but a responsive pressure sensitive screen would make this a digital sketchpad,  or portable paint studio.  The Processor can certainly handle it so keep looking back here for our thorough review upon release.  Wacom should be watching this closely as this will quickly replace their Cintiq line if the quality is up to the tasks.

The device up for preorder does not have the optional associated dock included.  It is being shipped with Android Honeycomb 3.2, but will receive a quick upgrade to Android 4.0.  Asus has been very responsive to the community in being quick to update their tablets.
