These Go to Eleven
Update: 3:23 PM Nov 11th
Google Music Beta users on Android reported seeing an overlay on the HTML5 player at music.google.com on their device browser, referencing buying millions of song, in the Android Market. This was quickly removed, but the picture is that much clearer, about what Google has in store for Music. I am still holding out hope for SpinalTap and their miniature Stonehenge revival!
Google has just announced an Android Music event on Nov 16th, to start at 2:00PM PST. Not much else is known yet about it, but we will post more as it develops. The Spinal Tap reference would indicate some changes coming to the Google Music Beta, which although quietly useful, still needs more compelling features to make Android a standout value added ecosystem. There will be a live stream of the event view-able at YouTube.com/Android. It looks like Google is ratcheting up the machinery for the upcoming holiday season. A unified and sleek new version of Android in the form of Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), a large update to GoogleTV, and an abundance of new tablets, and phones that will soon be running everyone favorite green robot.
My predictions, of what they will be announcing are based off of pure instinct, and keeping my ear to the road.
- More social sharing of music, tied into Google+, to promote both services. Perhaps with listening parties (similar to hangouts).
- Personality channels on YouTube, and also tied into Google+. 50Cent, Will Ferrell, and bands etc.
- More free music or a subscription service that costs up to 11 a month.
