With Apple’s release of its most recent tablet, the iPad 2, they have managed to create a real head-turner. Not only is it way faster than its original predecessor, but it’s also much thinner, in fact it’s a lot thinner than the iPad 1. It’s quite easy to handle, and also comes with a brilliantly designed Smart Cover. It sports a new dual core processor with an upgrade on its Operating System. The result is way faster browsing and app processing. A couple of new features and applications make the iPad 2 a worthy upgrade to the original first generation model. Read more of this iPad 2 review to see why this tablet is just simply the best of its kind.

Thinner, Sleek Design

One word comes into mind with the overall hardware design of the iPad 2: Sexy. This sleek tablet measures 0.34 inches at its thickest point, with a few inches off its width and height. It’s also very comfortable to handle; despite of being smaller it still weighs almost the same as the original iPad, which makes it even more balanced. As mentioned earlier, the iPad 2 is thinner than the iPhone 4, which is quite a surprise considering that it’s packed with a lot of cooler hardware add-ons.

It still retains the back camera, but adds a front camera which is great for using FaceTime, Apples’s built-in video-call application, which is a new addition to the list of cool iPad 2 applications. The speakers are also located at the back, which makes it sound better. Although if you’re working on GarageBand, or listening to music, or watching a video, you might want to use good earphones or speakers.

Great Performance

Most iPad 2 Review articles would say that the second generation iPad beats all other competition in the market. It’s not that hard to see why. With a new 1GHz dual-core processor integrated to the hardware, the A5, it’s noticeably faster than the original by a mile. From a test conducted that involved extreme usage of apps like games, and other graphically and CPU intensive apps, the iPad did not seem to show any signs of slowing down.

Browsing is also much faster thanks to the latest iOS update, the iOS 4.3. This makes video streaming from the iPad to a TV possible through Apple TV. Loading pages through Safari is also much faster now, since this update addresses the newer JavaScript update used by most webpages. Combining the A5 processor and the iOS 4.3 update makes the iPad far superior than its nearest competitors.

Longer battery life was also a promise that Apple made, and they did not disappoint us. An iPad Review previously conducted reports that even when watching a movie on loopback, Wi-Fi on, and the screen at 65 percent brightness, the iPad 2 achieved 10 hours of non-stop playback. Simply amazing!

Cameras: The Down Side

With all other features up a fair notch, this one feature seems to have been overlooked by the hardware developers. Just to sum it all up, it was quite a disappointment. Sure, you can use it for video-calling through FaceTime, but it’s not great for taking still shots. One iPad 2 Review states that the back camera was simply second rate; and in fact, the front camera is just a VGA cam. This feature needs a major update, hopefully with the release of the next third generation of iPads.

Overall, from the stand point of this iPad review, the iPad 2 tablet receives a 9.9 out of 10, with the 0.1 deducted because of the camera. But that does not discount the fact that the iPad 2 is still the best tablet in the market, a giant that other competitors need to reckon with.
